There is an interesting concept that I'm excited to share with you called the Circle of Life. If you're like me you probably sang the Lion King theme song after seeing title.
But this isn't about Simba.
It's about love and the part it plays in the circle of life.
It's a concept that was introduced to me by Ps Jonathan Fontanarosa of Edge Church which I will try to do justice to.
It's very simple.
Loving is giving and giving is living.
That's it!
This circle can be seen through our relationships with God, friends, family and colleagues.
with God
What is Love?
My faith tells me that God is love, and that is his very nature.
And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. - 1 John 4:16
How did God express his love?
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life
His love leads to life!
with Family & Friends
This cycle can also be seen in our relationships with with friends, family or romantic partner.
If you said the words I love you to your partner, sibling or friend. They would probably be happy to hear it or concerned, depending on the nature of the relationship.
Like damn, what have you done this time?
But you see whether we say the words or not, the only way we can express that love is by giving
- our time
- gifts
- a helping hand
- a listening ear etc.
This is because Love is outward moving, giving and beneficial to others.
So no matter how annoying times might get, we would still do these over again because life doesn't make much sense without them.
In fact we feel more alive when we do these things for people and it makes them happy.
With Colleagues
How do you show love in a workplace?
Well it's not through our:
best wishes
or
hope this email finds you well
Nope.
We show love by giving our coworkers
- some valuable advice
- some of our time for mentorship
- sharing words of encouragement
- checking up on their health
- listening to them talk about the things that excite them etc.
And that's what corporate likes to call a 'people-centric culture'.
Well it's really just love. And everyone should try it.
Because love doesn't have to be this grande word that means something you can only express romantically.
It's just a word that means giving!
As we live through a time of uncertainty, let's remember to show and spread love.
Because that's what life is about, giving.
It's not really about us, it is about how we can serve others and help others become more successful in the context of what they are doing - Dale Jones
